One-Year grant project “Modern History for Teachers in Attractive and Inspiring Way” supported by Education for Competitiveness Operational Programme of ESF(European Social Fund). The project was implemented from July 1st 2011 to June 30th 2012. In 2012-2014 PANT implements a three-year grant project Modern History to schools, which is partially financed by the European Social Fund as well as the state budget of the Czech Republic. It is aimed at modernizing ways of teaching the history of the 20th century with target groups consisting of students, teachers and school inspectors.

The project focused on the Moravian-Silesian regional teachers and its content was aimed at modern methods of teaching the history of 20th century in the context of regional history.

Thematic excursions:
History with one´s own eyes
1) In the footsteps of Jewish culture and suffering. Excursion to Auschwitz and Krakow
2) Germany in the maelstrom of the 20th century events. Excursion to Berlin and Potsdam
3) Places of suffering and pain of our ancestors. Excursion to Prague and Pribram
4) Czechoslovakian pre-war fortifications and fights in the 2nd World War in the Moravian-Silesian Region
 
Educational DVDs “Alone Against Evil”
This DVD contains seven real life testimonies by personalities from Moravian-Silesian region. Short movie documentaries introduce figures who were forgotten, at least in the context of the whole state. The DVD includes seven movies, methodological instructions for working with films, selection of sources and practical methodological materials needed for explanation of the period context.

We summarized practical outcomes of all the project´s activities in a book which was distributed in Moravian-Silesian schools for free. 
 
In 2012-2014 PANT implements a three-year grant project Modern History to schools, which is partially financed by the European Social Fund as well as the state budget of the Czech Republic. It is aimed at modernizing ways of teaching the history of the 20th century with target groups consisting of students, teachers and school inspectors.
 
The goal of the project is to improve quality and efficiency of teaching both students and teachers in primary and secondary schools in the field of 20th century national history within an international context. As well as introucing modern methods of teaching contemporary history and other project outputs to the Czech school inspectors as well as integrating them in the process of educational modernization. An essential goal is also to create and implement a long-term functionally structured educational model of teaching contemporary history. One based on an experiential method, in accordance with the national educational plans, and also with the creative cooperation of the target groups with PANT, including activities involving both the students and the teachers involved in the project.
 
Partial Activities of The Project
  • Creation of educational materials – thematically designed educational sets made for individual periods or events of the 20th century.
  • Series of seminars - aimed at designing methodological materials and their utilization in lessons.
  • Travelling exhibitions – during the project there will be six exhibitions dedicated to modern historical themes.
  • Student conference – three two-day conferences on particular topics of modern history at Olga Havlova Grammar School in Ostrava.
  • Student mini conference – nine one-day students meetings in different Czech regions.
  • Film and history – annotated film screenings with historical themes.
  • The story of the 20th century – A students competition, where the task for the students will be to record and process the testimony of a family member according to given materials.
  • Conference of the involved schools – a follow-up of the previous years of successful international Modern History teaching conferences 
  • Internet anthology of the sources – creation of a comprehensive database of text, image and audio-visual resources on www.moderni-dejiny.cz website.
